EDIT: IBM’s History Flow wiki diff visualisation

5. Dezember 2008 – 11:57

EDIT

I have tried this app for a while, but i’m still not sure how to use it. It seems to need an export of the entire article of a wiki as xml (folder). My exports from the specialpage “Special:Export” do apparently have the wrong structure. My own export files from wikipedia.de are also not visualized. The HistoryFlow example files contain only UserNames. I have the fear, HistoryFlow is working on manually created files only.

You have to install JTidy for running History Flow on the fly. Just download the zip and install it via “File->install JTidy” in History Flows menübar. After that you’ll be able to import any online reachable MediaWiki Article or MoinMoin Page

What is History Flow?

IBM has published a tool named HistoryFlow for visualization the upgrowing history of wiki articles.

history flow is a tool for visualizing dynamic, evolving documents and the interactions of multiple collaborating authors.

The vertical red line represents the first version of the document. Since Mary creates the page all of the contents in the page reflect her author color. The length of the line indicates the amount of text Mary has written.

history flow connects text that has been kept the same between consecutive versions; in other words, it connects corresponding segments on the lines representing versions. Pieces of text that do not have correspondence in the next (or previous) version are not connected and the user sees a resulting “gap” in the visualization; this happens for deletions and insertions.

that historyflow looks like at massive editing
